This course equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to foster resilient communities and systematically reduce disaster risks within the Ethiopian context. Grounded in the core principles of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) and international humanitarian standards, the curriculum bridges the gap between theoretical risk management and community-led action.

 

Key Learning Objectives

  • Understand Risk & Vulnerability: Identify, assess, and prioritize localized climate and disaster risks using standard Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) tools.
  • Build Community Resilience: Learn strategies to strengthen local community structures, ensuring they can anticipate, prepare for, cope with, and recover from shocks.
  • Master DRR Frameworks: Align local community actions with national disaster risk management policies and global frameworks (such as the Sendai Framework).
  • Design Inclusive Interventions: Develop gender-responsive, inclusive, and sustainable risk reduction action plans tailored to diverse community needs.
